POLICIES & PROCEDURES:
REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS

This Reasonable Adjustments & Learner Support policy ensures that all learners, including those with disabilities, learning difficulties, medical conditions, English as an Additional Language (EAL), or other additional needs, have fair and equitable access to learning and assessment. The aim is to remove barriers to participation while maintaining the integrity and standards of qualifications.

KEY PRINCIPLES

  • All learners are entitled to an inclusive learning and assessment experience.
  • Reasonable adjustments help reduce disadvantage without providing unfair advantage.
  • Special considerations may be applied where temporary circumstances, such as illness or unforeseen events, affect performance.
  • Support arrangements are based on individual needs and reviewed regularly to ensure they remain effective.

IDENTIFYING LEARNER NEEDS

Learners are encouraged to disclose support needs as early as possible. Tutors and support staff work with learners to identify appropriate adjustments through consultation, observation, previous records, and, where necessary, referrals to specialist services. All agreed support arrangements are documented and monitored.

REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS

Reasonable adjustments are tailored to individual circumstances and may include:

  • Additional assessment time or supervised rest breaks.
  • Reader, writer, interpreter, or communication support.
  • Adapted learning materials, including enlarged print, alternative formats, or assistive technology.
  • Separate or quiet assessment rooms.
  • Adapted teaching methods, furniture, equipment, or learning environments.
  • Support for learners with visual or hearing impairments, learning difficulties, medical conditions, or English language needs.

Any adjustments must enable fair access while ensuring assessments continue to reflect the learner’s own knowledge, skills, and ability.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Special considerations may be applied when a learner experiences temporary difficulties, such as illness, injury, or unexpected personal circumstances. Support may include alternative arrangements, resits, or other measures that ensure results accurately reflect achievement without compromising assessment standards.

CONFIDENTIALITY & APPEALS

Information relating to learner support, adjustments, and special considerations is treated confidentially and shared only with relevant staff. Learners may appeal decisions regarding support arrangements through Crosby Training’s Complaints and Appeals Procedure.

Support arrangements are reviewed throughout the learner journey to ensure they remain appropriate and effective. Feedback, progress, and outcomes are monitored to support continuous improvement and ensure learners receive the assistance they need to achieve their goals.
