The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment gives learners a solid understanding of the essential health and safety principles used on construction sites. It covers core topics such as risk assessment, manual handling, working at height, safe use of tools and equipment and common on-site hazards. The course is recognised within the construction industry and supported by bodies such as CITB, making it a credible and structured introduction to safe working practices for anyone entering or returning to the sector.

This qualification is especially suitable for people entering the construction industry for the first time – including labourers, general operatives, apprentices and those changing careers who need a recognised safety credential before stepping on site.
It is also valuable for agency or temporary workers and for those who may need to visit construction sites as part of their job.
This Award is often combined with our Fast Track CSCS Card course.
There are many benefits to obtaining this qualification:
- CSCS Card Eligibility
When you complete this Level 1 award and pass the CITB Operative Health, Safety & Environment test, you can apply for a CSCS Green Labourer Card. The CSCS card is required on most construction sites: having it helps you get onto sites legally and safely. - Foundational Health & Safety Knowledge
It gives you a solid grounding in Health & Safety principles specifically tailored to construction. Topics like risk assessment, manual handling, working at height and plant safety are vital to understand if you’re working in construction. This Award helps you understand your legal responsibilities, safe practices and how to identify and manage common hazards. - Improving Safety Culture
By having this qualification, you (and potentially your employer) can reduce risk of accidents, because you are more informed about how to work safely. It encourages proactive safety behaviour, which benefits both workers and companies. - Recognised & Regulated
This certification is recognised across the UK construction industry and demonstrates compliance in Health & Safety training. - Supporting Personal Development
You’ll gain awareness of your own strengths, values, ambitions and areas for growth. This self-understanding will help you make informed career decisions.

After completing this Award, you will be well-prepared, confident and ready to take your next steps within the construction industry.
