This introductory safeguarding qualification gives learners a solid understanding of what safeguarding is, how abuse can be recognised and what actions should be taken if there are concerns about a child or young person. It covers the legal and professional responsibilities of safeguarding, different forms and signs of abuse, how to respond appropriately to disclosures or suspicions and how to record and share information.

This qualification is vital for anyone who works with, supports or regularly encounters children or young people as part of their job.
It is commonly taken by people working in childcare, early years settings, schools, sport and leisure, youth work, health and social care and community organisations. It is also suitable for those who are new to these sectors and need the essential knowledge to carry out their duties safely and legally.
This Award forms part of our Teaching Assistant course.
Completing this Award opens up opportunities to take on roles where safeguarding training is mandatory – including positions in education, childcare and youth support services. It can strengthen employability for entry-level roles in care and community work and can also support progression into further safeguarding training. For volunteers, it provides the formal recognition required by organisations working with children and young people, helping them meet compliance and safer-recruitment expectations.

After completing this Award, you’ll be confident and ready to take your next steps in a career working with or supporting children and young people. Our experienced advisors will help you plan your ongoing development and guide you towards suitable opportunities or further training options that meet your needs.
